Sketchup is a great tool for modeling all sorts of shapes and objects. One of its biggest drawbacks is that it has a hard time modeling organic shapes with NURB attributes but luckily it doesn’t have to stay that way any longer thanks to the Soap Skin & Bubble plugin. Josef Leibinger’s Soap Skin & Bubble plugin for Sketchup is one of the most exciting things to happen to Sketchup in quite some time. The free plugin gives modelers the ability to easily create a multi-faceted face inside of a closed group of three or more lines. Its as simple as selecting the lines, start up the plugin, tell it how many faces you want the new face to have, and then sit back to watch it work its magic.

The plugin also lets you inflate or deflate the new face after its been created. As a word of warning, if you use a very large number of polygons to create your curved face, the plugin may crash your model depending on your machine. It’s rare but if you keep the polygon count low you shouldn’t have any problems. Overall, its a stable plugin that is a blast to use on more organic shaped models. Be sure to follow the steps on his to install the Soap Skin & Bubble plugin properly. UPDATE: Soap Skin & Bubble Plugin can now be downloaded directly from Sketchup’s Extension Warehouse or installed via Sketchup’s Extension Manager plugin.
Here's what I had to do to get it working on Sketchup 2013: 1) Download the extension from their site: (Which is annoying cause it pops up with ads for Sketchup 2015 a lot, and you need to have a Google account). 2) Rename the ' JLSoapSkinBubblev1.0.190.rbz' file you get to ' JLSoapSkinBubblev1.0.190.rar'. Note: rename it to.zip should work too. 3) Open ' JLSoapSkinBubblev1.0.190.rar' with WinRaR or 7Zip.
Note: if you named it to.zip, you should be able to open it with Windows 4) Extract the ' SoapSkinBubble' folder and the ' SoapSkinBubble.rb' file into your Sketchup plugins folder. Moved to Creator Help.
Yes, it's there. I did it twice both same result. First time I did it the folder was in the download only the.rb I put in plugin and saw the icons were invisible so deleted it and the 2nd time I did it I put the folder to the plugin and left it there til I checked it now. It was same result.
I also checked the folder I saw the small icon images in the folder but it's not showing when I open the sketchup. Weird, it is possible that it's broken on Sketchup 2008.I have not tried it on that version so I can't confirm that. That said, I just want to point out that you can install Sketchup 2013 (Which this plugin works fine in, at least for me) without having to uninstall 2008 or loose any settings.
All you have to do is point the 2013 install to a different folder. In fact, I believe it chooses its own directory by default so it doesn't overwrite anything, if I remember correctly. This is just speculation, but if Sketchup uses some sort of settings/config file/folder.you could try copying that file/folder into the 2013 install location or wherever the config/settings file/directory is stored and see if 2013 will accept it. It may end up allowing you to transfer your settings over. I've never had a reason to transfer settings between versions so I haven't put any time or effort into that therefore I'm no expert on that but maybe it's something you could look into? Would be cool if you could do it and it would save you time, effort and frustration in the future.
